Suggestopaedia and Suggestology
What is Suggestopaedia?
Suggestopedia is a teaching-learning methodology whose main aim is to activate the learners’ untapped reserves of the brain/psyche. It was developed in the 1970s in Sofia by the neuropsychiatrist and psychotherapist Dr. Georgi Lozanov with his colleagues at the Research Institute of Suggestology at the University of Sofia ‘St. Kliment Ohridsky’ and later with the contribution of the linguist, researcher in Musical Pedagogy and creator of the suggestopaedic art, Dr. Evelina Gateva.
In the project it is aimed to use Suggestopedia with new approaches and methodologies to teach languages.
The asylum camp is home to over 700 refugees in Sweden. Those who want to learn Swedish are welcomed in daily courses that use the Suggestopedia methodology.
UNESCO has recognized Suggestopedia as the most effective method for combating illiteracy. Remarkably, students can progress from zero to level B2 in just 10 to 12 weeks.
